Swimming pool crop Chateau Puyssentut dates back to the 12th century when it was the manor of the village of Puyssentut. From the 1600s until the French revolution it was owned by the De Sariac family, a well connected, noble family. Possibly during the 100 Years War or during the Wars of Religion the house was fortified, when it became a chateau. During the French revolution the de Sariacs were forced to flee across the Spanish border.

By the the 20th century the village of Puyssentut had completely disappeared and the chateau had fallen into ruin, until it was bought by an English couple in the 1990s who began to restore it. Angela Wood and Dirk-Karel de Geus bought Puyssentut in 2011 and completed its restoration, finally bringing it back to its former glory.

Sunflower roomThe Chateau has 10 en-suite bedrooms, two of which are wheelchair accessible (the entire ground floor of the Chateau is accessible for wheelchairs). The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and provide a wonderful refuge when you need time on your own. When you are feeling sociable it is great to relax in the large, airy lounge with it's well stocked library, enjoy the inviting dining room with its roaring fire, or help in the welcoming kitchen and learn some recipes while you are doing so. If you want to phone home or share your experiences of being at Puyssentut on social media we have wifi access in our cosy reception and internet connections via cable in all the bedrooms.

Pretty gardens filled with flowers and the soft hum of insects surround the chateau, with terraces for communal eating and sunning, a swimming pool, and a juice bar. We are currently developing a ‘potager’ (vegetable garden), where we will grow a variety of organic produce for use in our kitchen. Around the house and garden there is a pretty walking path taking you through woodland and past fields, where wild flowers and wildlife are in abundance.

studioThe stone barn has been converted into a workshop and studio space. It is light and airy, with a wooden floor, and is a perfect space for yoga, meditation and all sorts of workshops.

The barn is stocked with yoga mats, bolsters, meditation cushions and blankets.

When not in use for cancer retreats the chateau and the studio space are available for rent. If you are interested in renting the chateau please visit: Chateau de Puissentut
